Joe Budden Explains NYC Arrest Before Slaughterhouse Show

Mar 31

Joe Budden was noticeably absent from Slaughterhouse’s Thursday night show in New York City because the New Jersey rapper was arrested for a traffic violation stemming from a 2007 incident. In an interview with Fuse TV, Budden addressed the arrest, explaining that the situation didn’t come to his attention until it was too late. “I’m pretty cut and dry about,” Budden told Fuse. “It was an unpaid ticket, bench warrant; and when there’s a bench warrant they catch you when they can catch you.”

“And it just so happens we had a sold out show at Best Buy Theater, and that’s where the decided to catch me…I always perform in New York,” he continued. “The bottom line of it is if I would have known about the situation it would have been cleared up, but I didn’t. It had never popped up before and I had gone through the system a few times.”

Slaughterhouse Show Recap:

On Thursday night, just a few minutes after 10 p.m. Joell Ortiz opened the Slaughterhouse show at the Best Buy Theater by reciting his verse to the group’s fan-favorite “The Illest.” Long Beach, California MC Crooked I followed, but there was a visible absence. The DJ cued up “Sound Off” next and Royce da 5’9″ marched out spewing his patented Detroit venom, but with three quarters of the Slaughterhouse machine on stage, Joe Budden’s absence was glaring. It was then that Slaughterhouse announced their outspoken bandmate had been arrested by the NYPD.

In full support, the crowd began to shout “Joey, Joey, Joey,” without any prompting from Joell, Crook or Nickel Nine.

The group then went into a portion of their infamous 2011 B.E.T. Hip-Hop Award Show cypher. Joell spit his verse and then went into his solo underground gem “Hip-Hop.” Budden was missed, but the now-three-headed lyrical Shady Records monster carried on.There was no “Pump It Up” or Mood Muzik verses, but Budden’s band of brothers still repped performing their solo hits as well as posse cuts like “Microphone” and “Hammer Dance.”

That didn’t stop the crowd from chanting for Joe Budden. “We love Joey too, chanting for him ain’t gonna get him outta jail,” Royce responded.

Bobbi Kristina Inherits Whitney Houston’s Estate

Bobbi Kristina shared with Oprah on “Oprah’s Next Chapter” that she had plans to “carry on the legacy” of her late mother. ”We’re gonna do the singing thing. Some acting, some dancing,” Bobbi Kristina said. “It’s a lot of pressure, but she prepared me for it.”

Whitney Houston was found dead at the age of 48 in a Beverly Hills hotel room on February 11 and she was laid to rest in her hometown of Newark, New Jersey, on February 18. Tyler Perry was among the stars on hand to pay homage to her at the funeral services.

Nas Reveals Producers On ‘Life Is Good’ Album

Mar 30

By Rob Markman

Nas has collaborated with some of the most legendary hip-hop producers in the span of his career, beginning with DJ Premier and Pete Rock on his debut album Illmatic, and for his upcoming 10th album Life is Good the Queens MC tapped a small batch of producers who would help him craft the sound and vibe he desired.

“I wanted to work on a record where it’s just not a lot of people,” Nas said when he appeared on “RapFix Live” on Wednesday. “So it’s mostly No I.D., Saalam Remi, Da Internz; those are the ones who basically gave me the music. They knew what I wanted; they sat with me.”

On 2001′s Stillmatic, Remi contributed the beat for “What Goes Around” and then came back the next year to give Esco two singles for his God’s Son LP (“Made You Look” and “I Can”). No I.D. and Nas have some history as well. In 2007, the Nasty one hopped on the No I.D.-produced cut “Success” off of Jay-Z’s American Gangster album, and late last year, Nas, Common and the Chicago producer collaborated on “Ghetto Dreams.”

“I needed producers that’s gonna be there and get into what I want to get into, have the conversation and start making the records based off of what I’m looking for,” God’s Son said.

Heavy D also lent a production hand prior to his death last year, making the beat for Life Is Good‘s latest single, “The Don.” Nas didn’t find out that Heavy sent the music for him to use until after he died however. “I looked up to Heav,” he said. “He’s an icon, a music icon.”

What are your expectations for Nas’ Life Is Good? Tell us in the comments!
